Long Tom Pass |
|
|
Country: South Africa Region: Mpumalanga In Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) the Long Tom artillery cannon was the nightmare of British troops, today it lends its name to one of the most breath-taking passes in South Africa. The pass is on the regional R37 road between Lydenburg and Sabie. You can still see the old, much more treacherous road the ox wagons used. Luckily you won't have to brave the so-called Devil's Knuckles anymore... At about 20 km from Sabie there is a replica of the Long Tom cannon. |
