Southern Africa Travel Guide

Penguins

The African penguins, often referred to as jackass penguin for the donkey-like sounds they produce, are relative newcomers to the African mainland. The two colonies in South Africa, at Boulder’s Beach (Simon’s Town) and Stony Point (Betty’s Bay) were only ‘established’ in the 1980s. Stony Point is less crowded (by people) and well worth a visit.
